Setting Up ReplayNT

<<        >>

There are primary functions you should perform before using ReplayNT for the first time. All primary setup functions are found under a single menu item called Setup. The next several sections explain how to set up ReplayNT for the first time.

Please Note: ReplayNT 3.6 will set up a database on your computer. It is based on Sybase SQL Anywhere 9. This database is in my opinion a marvelous piece of software. It scales all the way from pocket PCs to Enterprise Class Databases. The version released in this software package is a single user version of the database. It has a very small footprint and will not covet any of your systems precious resources when not in use. As such, it is used as the main scheduler for all of the date/time based events that ReplayNT relies upon. Please do not turn off this software if you expect ReplayNT to work properly.

When the database is set up correctly, you will see a symbol that looks like this in your Task Bar.

This is the symbol for the database engine and it must running so that scheduled tasks can occur.

The database is also available as a multiple user database. This is especially convenient if you have multiple computers. For example, it is possible to have a computer act as the server for ReplayNT. You could then set up ReplayNT clients on other computers, including computers at remote locations (i.e. work) that would allow you to connect to the database and control most of the functionality of ReplayNT from the other computers. This requires a change of the setup of the database to put it in multi-user mode which is not difficult to achieve but you will need to contact the NightThunder to do so.

Finally, since all events come from the database, you do not need to keep ReplayNT running. The only thing you need to have running is the symbol

in the taskbar. Once you have viewed and scheduled the programs you want to record, you can safely close ReplayNT.
